This Oil Spill Management & Response course provides comprehensive training on identifying, containing, and cleaning up oil spills while mitigating environmental impacts, structured around IMO OPRC model courses.   • Contingency Planning: Developing, reviewing, and implementing National and Local Contingency Plans.
  • Incident Management System (IMS): Overview of response structure and crisis management.
  • Initial Action: Detection, notification, and preliminary assessment.

  • Mechanical Containment & Recovery: Boom deployment and skimmer operations.
  • Chemical/Biological Methods: Use of dispersants and bioremediation agents.
  • In-Situ Burning: Regulations and application techniques.
  • Shoreline Cleanup: Strategies for different coastal habitats and waste management. 
Day 3: Spill Tracking & Modeling
  • Oil Behavior: Understanding weathering, evaporation, and emulsification.
  • Spill Tracking: Spill trajectory modeling and hands-on volume calculations.
  • Site Safety: Job Safety Environmental Analysis (JSEA).
  • Mapping: Identifying sensitive areas (Sensitivity Mapping). 
Day 4: Management and Closing 
  • Media and Public Information: Managing communication during a crisis.
  • Liability and Compensation: International regimes (CLC, Fund, Bunker Convention).
  • Termination of Response: De-activation and post-spill activities.
  • Final Table-top Exercise: Scenario-based decision-making. 
Day 5: Incident Command & Tactical Operations 
  • ICS Structure: Roles of the Incident Commander, Operations, Planning, and Logistics sections.
  • Tactical Response Planning: ICS forms (202, 215, 204) and resource tracking.
  • Operation Control: Coordination of vessels, boom deployment, and personnel.
