Course Modules
 
Module 1: Advanced Sampling Techniques (Oil, Gas, Water) 
  • Principles of Representative Sampling: Techniques for manual and automatic sampling from pressurized systems.
  • Contamination Control: Minimizing contamination in pressurized systems and handling hazardous samples.
  • Safety and Regulations: Sampling procedures for H2S, condensate, and water. 
 
Module 2: Advanced Crude Oil Analysis & Evaluation 
  • Physical Properties Testing: Density, kinematic viscosity, cloud point, and pour point.
  • Chemical Composition Analysis: Sulfur content, carbon residue, wax content, and SARA analysis (Saturates, Aromatics, Resins, Asphaltenes).
  • Detailed Crude Assay: Interpretation of ASTM distillation tests and component analysis (\(C_3 - C_{120}\)).
  • Quality Assessment: Troubleshooting, data interpretation, and custody transfer procedures. 
 
Module 3: Natural Gas & Liquid Gas Analysis 
  • Gas Chromatography (GC): Configuration, calibration, and ASTM D1945 standard for natural gas composition.
  • Contaminant Analysis: Detection of \(H_{2}S\), \(\text{CO}_{2}\), moisture, and oxygen.
  • Physical Properties: Calculation of calorific value, specific gravity, and compressibility factors.
  • Measurement Technologies: Orifice, Turbine, Ultrasonic, and Coriolis meters. 
 
Module 4: Water Analysis for Drinking & Process Usage 
  • Regulatory Framework: Understanding EPA drinking water standards and safety regulations.
  • Physicochemical Analysis: Advanced techniques for pH, electrical conductivity, TDS, and turbidity.
  • Chemical Contaminants: Analysis of metals (ICP-OES), fluoride, nitrate, and phenols.
  • Microbial Analysis: Testing for bacteria and coliforms. 
 
Module 5: Laboratory Quality Management & Data Integrity 
  • ISO 17025 Standards: Implementing Quality Management Systems in oil & gas labs.
  • Method Validation & Calibration: Ensuring precision, accuracy, and troubleshooting analytical methods.
  • Uncertainty Estimation: Statistical methods for reporting reliable analytical data. 
 
Learning Outcomes
