Introduction

Hydrogen Production by Steam Reforming of Hydrocarbons

This course provides a detailed examination of the most widely used industrial process for producing hydrogen: the steam reforming of hydrocarbons, primarily focusing on methane (natural gas) and higher hydrocarbon feedstocks (LPG, naphtha). The course covers the full process chain from feedstock pre-treatment to purification.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Understand the chemical, thermodynamic, and engineering principles of steam reforming.
  • Analyze the impact of operating parameters (temperature, pressure, steam ratio) on hydrogen production efficiency.
  • Evaluate different hydrocarbon feedstocks and identify appropriate pre-treatment and reforming techniques.
  • Design and troubleshoot critical components of a steam reforming plant, including catalysts and reactors.
